San Antonio goes for 14th straight win at Milwaukee

Mar 15, 2007 - 3:28 PM San Antonio (46-18) at Milwaukee (23-41) 8:00 pm EDT

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) - Larry Krystkowiak's first game as an NBA coach may not be a memorable one.

Hours after replacing the fired Terry Stotts as coach of the reeling Milwaukee Bucks, Krystkowiak will have to figure out a way to slow down the San Antonio Spurs, who bring a 13-game winning streak to the Bradley Center on Thursday.

Mired in last place in the Central Division with a 23-41 record and 6 1/2 games out of a playoff spot in the weak Eastern Conference, the Bucks on Wednesday let go of Stotts, who had coached the team for the last one-plus seasons.

Bucks general manager Larry Harris replaced him with Krystkowiak, who received a multi-year deal to become the 10th coach in franchise history and will have his work cut out for him in his first game.

The Spurs have been dominating opponents lately, winning by an average of over 15 points during their streak. They are doing it with defense, holding foes to less than 85 points nine times.

San Antonio suffered a 114-107 home loss to Milwaukee on December 26. Michael Redd scored 36 points for the Bucks, who improved to 14-14 with that win but are playing just .250 ball (9-27) since.

The Spurs have won six of the last nine meetings.
