Clippers can complete rare season sweep of Nets
Mar 18, 2007 - 3:14 PM LA Clippers (30-35) at New Jersey (30-36) 6:00 pm ESTEAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Cuttino Mobley has pleasant memories of his last game against the New Jersey Nets.
Mobley looks to lead the Los Angeles Clippers to their first road victory against the Nets in nine years and their first season sweep of New Jersey since 1989-1990 on Sunday.
When the teams squared off January 25, the Nets were headed for a win before Mobley buried a 3-pointer with six-tenths of a second remaining to give the Clippers a 102-101 triumph.
Los Angeles has won consecutive games against the Nets for the first time since January 15, 1998-April 13, 1999, and will look to win for just the second time in seven overall contests.
Elton Brand has four straight double-doubles for the Clippers, including a 19-point, 10-rebound performance, as the Los Angeles snapped a five-game slide with Friday's 102-93 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats.
Continuing a quest for the their first back-to-back playoff appearances since 1991-1993, the Clippers are one-half game behind the Golden State Warriors (32-36) for the last playoff spot in the Western Conference.
The Nets have dropped six of their last eight outings and are losing ground in a bid for their fourth Atlantic Division title in five seasons. They trail the first-place Toronto Raptors (36-30) by six games.
After consecutive victories over the Memphis Grizzlies and the New Orleans Hornets, the Nets suffered a 96-83 loss to the Miami Heat in Thursday's opener of a three-game homestand.
Richard Jefferson scored 20 points and Jason Kidd collected 14 assists for New Jersey, which shot only 39 percent (31-of-80) from the floor.
