Sonics hope to avoid their third six-game losing streak

Mar 18, 2007 - 5:35 PM Seattle (25-40) at Portland (26-39) 9:00 pm EDT

PORTLAND, Oregon (Ticker) - The Seattle SuperSonics thought they had their season heading in the right direction. A recent losing streak has brought them back to earth.

The SuperSonics aim to avoid their third six-game skid of the season when they take on the similarly sliding Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday.

After winning seven of their last 10 games, Seattle has fallen back on hard times, suffering through another tough losing streak. Seattle dropped six straight from December 12-20 and again from January 2-10. The Sonics continued their slide with a heartbreaking 99-98 loss to Golden State on Saturday.

Rashard Lewis had a chance to give Seattle a two-point lead, but the former All-Star connected on 1-of-2 foul shots with seven seconds to go to set up star guard Baron Davis' basket with two seconds left. The Sonics had a chance to win it, but Damien Wilkins misfired as the buzzer sounded.

Seattle suffered its second one-point loss in their last three games.

However, the Sonics are glad to see the Trail Blazers, who have won just two of the previous nine meetings with Seattle, including three loss at the Rose Garden.

Portland lost the last meeting between the teams, 97-73, on February 26, and then dropped five of its next seven contests. The Blazers are in 13th place in the Western Conference, just one game ahead of the Sonics, and only four behind the eighth-place Los Angeles Clippers (30-35).
