Anthony, Iverson look to lead Nuggets to fifth straight win

Mar 20, 2007 - 2:33 PM Denver (33-31)) at New Jersey (31-36) 7:00 pm EDT

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson finally have the Denver Nuggets headed in the right direction.

The Nuggets try to extend their winning streak to five games when they face the New Jersey Nets on the first leg of a five-game East Coast swing.

Iverson was acquired to team up with Anthony to form one of the highest scoring tandoms in the NBA, but Denver stumbled with the two All-Stars in the lineup, posting a 12-16 record in January and February.

But the Nuggets are now rolling and trail the sixth-place Los Angeles Lakers (35-32) by one-half game in the Western Conference race.

Iverson and Anthony combined for 73 points in the Nuggets' 131-107 triumph over the Phoenix Suns on Saturday.

New Jersey has won three of its last four games following a five-game slide. The Nets posted a 101-95 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.

All-Star Jason Kidd collected 23 points and 13 assists in the win and was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday.

The Nets are percentage points in front of eight-place Indiana (30-35) and one-half game ahead of Orlando (31-37) and New York (30-36) for the final two playoff spots in the Eastern Conference.
