Spurs look for yet another 50-win season

Mar 26, 2007 - 3:31 PM San Antonio (49-20) at Golden State (33-38) 10:30 pm EDT

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- The San Antonio Spurs are closing in on yet another 50-win campaign. The Golden State Warriors are just trying to make the playoffs.

The Spurs can reach the 50-win plateau for the eighth consecutive season with a victory over the Warriors on Monday night. And the streak should really be longer since the Spurs were 37-13 in a lockout-shortened 1998-99 campaign when they won the first of their three NBA titles. The previous campaign, they were 56-26.

San Antonio has won 15 of 17 games heading into Monday's contest against the Warriors.

The Spurs are three games behind second-place Phoenix (52-17), which is six back of league-leading Dallas (58-11) for the top spot in the Western Conference and the NBA's best record.

San Antonio posted a 120-79 victory over Seattle on Sunday. Tim Duncan had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Jacque Vaughn added 13 off the bench for the Spurs.

Golden State is 1 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Clippers for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West.

The Warriors have won seven of their last 10 games, but fell to the Los Angeles Lakers, 115-113, on Sunday. Monta Ellis tied his career high with 31 points off the bench and Al Harrington added 23.
