Suns look for season sweep of Grizzlies
Apr 3, 2007 - 5:09 PM Phoenix (55-18) at Memphis (19-56) 8:00 pm EDTMEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) - The Phoenix Suns look to complete a season series sweep of the woeful Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday and close in on the second seed in the Western Conference.
The Suns have won four straight meetings with the Grizzlies dating to last season. They have won three games this season by an average of 42 points, with Amare Stoudemire doing most of the damage, averaging 31.3 points.
Phoenix has not swept Memphis since the 2000-01 season.
Phoenix also is coming off perhaps its most impressive victory of the season, a 126-104 victory over Dallas on Sunday. The Suns shot a league season-high 65 percent (46-of-71) from the field and Stoudemire scored 24 points.
The Suns (55-18) probably won't catch the Mavericks (61-12) for the top seed but are three games ahead of San Antonio (52-21) in the race for the second seed and home-court advantage in a possible conference semifinals matchup.
The Grizzlies have lost two in a row, including Saturday's 120-93 loss at Seattle. They have been getting a boost from rookie guard Tarence Kinsey, who is averaging 21.3 points in the last four games.
