Bryant, Lakers seek third straight win over Clippers
Apr 4, 2007 - 5:08 PM LA Lakers (39-35) at LA Clippers (36-37) 10:30 pm EDTLOS ANGELES (Ticker) - With postseason spots on the line, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Clippers should give Tinseltown something to watch.
Superstar Kobe Bryant and the slumping Lakers will try to get back on track Wednesday when they face the Clippers, who are making a playoff push.
The Lakers stumbled for the third time in four games Tuesday, dropping a 111-105 decision to the Denver Nuggets despite 39 points from Bryant.
At 28 years, 223 days, Bryant became the youngest player to reach 19,000 points, passing Michael Jordan (29 years, 62 days) and Wilt Chamberlain (29 years, 75 days).
Tuesday's setback loss trimmed the lead for the Lakers (39-35) for sixth place in the Western Conference standings to 1 1/2 games over Denver (37-36).
The Staples Center residents have not met in over four months. The Lakers notched a 105-101 victory November 21 and a 97-88 triumph December 2.
One win away from the conference finals a year ago, the Clippers have struggled with inconsistency and injuries this season but still hold a 1 1/2-game edge over Golden State (35-39) for final spot in the West.
On Saturday, Cuttino Mobley and Elton Brand combined for 46 points in a 99-86 triumph over the Portland Trail Blazers, their sixth win in seven games.
