Fading Knicks face Timberwolves

Apr 6, 2007 - 5:30 PM Minnesota (31-43) at New York (31-43) 7:30 pm EDT

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Trying to stay in the Eastern Conference playoff race, the fading New York Knicks face the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday.

New York has lost three straight and 10 of its last 13 games, but still is just 2 1/2 games behind Orlando (34-41) for the eighth and final playoff spot.

Injuries have been a major factor for the Knicks, who have been without guard Jamal Crawford (stress fracture ankle), forward Quentin Richardson (back) and guard Steve Francis (ankle). Forward David Lee also has battled a leg injury.

Stephon Marbury scored 20 of his 30 points in the third quarter in Wednesday's 92-90 home loss to Philadelphia.

The Timberwolves are six games behind the Los Angeles Clippers (37-37) for the Western Conference's final playoff spot with nine games left. They are coming off Tuesday's 101-88 loss to Cleveland.
