Kidd, Carter look to continue magic as Nets face Wizards

Apr 10, 2007 - 2:28 PM New Jersey (36-40) at Washington (39-37) 7:00 pm EDT

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Vince Carter and Jason Kidd have a tough act to follow against the shorthanded Washington Wizards.

Carter and Kidd each will be looking to have big games Tuesday when the New Jersey Nets visit the Wizards.

In Saturday's 120-114 overtime triumph over the Wizards, Carter and Kidd became the first teammates in 18 years to record a triple-double in the same game.

Carter collected a season high-tying 46 points, a career-high 16 rebounds and 10 assists. Kidd had 10 points, a season-best 16 rebounds and matched a season high with 18 assists. The last teammates to record a triple-double in the same game were Chicago's Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen on January 3, 1989 vs. the Los Angeles Clippers.

New Jersey enters this contest one-half game in front of Orlando for eighth place in the Eastern Conference. The Nets are just two games in front of ninth-place Indiana.

The Nets also have an outside shot at catching the Wizards for sixth, trailing them by three games with six to play.

Washington continues to play without All-Stars Gilbert Arenas (torn meniscus) and Caron Butler (broken hand). Neither player is expected back unless the Wizards advance deep into the playoffs.

The Wizards, who have lost all three meetings with New Jersey this season, are 2 1/2 games behind Miami for the top spot in the Southeast Division.

On Saturday, Antawn Jamison had a season-high 37 points, including a game-tying 3-pointer that sent the game to overtime. Jarvis Hayes also netted a season-high 29 points for the Wizards, who have lost seven of their last nine games.
