Clippers, Hornets battle for final playoff spot

Apr 10, 2007 - 3:00 PM LA Clippers (37-39) at New Orleans (36-41) 8:00 pm EDT

OKLAHOMA CITY (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Clippers try to regain sole possession of the Western Conference's final playoff spot Tuesday when they face the New Orleans Hornets.

The Clippers are tied with Golden State (38-40) for the final playoff spot, 1 1/2 games in front of New Orleans. Los Angeles enters this contest looking to avoid its third straight loss.

On Monday, Corey Maggette scored 24 points as the Clippers endured a 96-86 loss at league-leading Dallas.

The Hornets have had their own injury problems, including those to starting center Tyson Chandler (toe) and shooting guard Desmond Mason (fractured nose, cheek). Mason will miss the remainder of the season.

Star guard Chris Paul missed Friday's game after a flare up to a left foot injury. However, he returned to score 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting to lead the Hornets to a 96-94 victory over Minnesota on Saturday.

The Hornets have lost both games to the Clippers this season by a combined 26 points.
