Hornets could be playing last game in Oklahoma City

Apr 13, 2007 - 3:01 PM Denver (42-36) at New Orleans (37-41) 8:00 pm EDT

OKLAHOMA CITY (Ticker) -- The New Orleans Hornets play what could be their final game in their adopted home Friday when they face the red-hot Denver Nuggets.

Due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, the Hornets have played a majority of their home games at the Ford Center the last two seasons. But they are expected to return to New Orleans on a full-time basis next season.

The Hornets, who play their final three games on the road, have a shot to ensure some more home games here if it could make the playoffs. New Orleans is one game behind both Golden State (38-40) and the Los Angeles Clippers (38-40) for the Western Conference's final postseason spot.

After failing to meet expectations for much of the season, the Nuggets have reeled off a season-high seven-game winning streak to clinch a playoff berth. It's their longest winning streak since a 10-game run from March 30-April 15, 2005.

Carmelo Anthony has been a catalyst, scoring 30 or more points in six of his last eight contests, including 32 in a 115-106 victory vs. Utah on Wednesday.

The Hornets have won two of three meetings between the teams, including a 99-89 triumph here on December 29, a contest that Anthony missed while he was serving a suspension.
