Bulls look to hold on to second place in the East

Apr 15, 2007 - 3:05 PM Chicago (48-32) at Washington (40-39) 1:00 pm EDT

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The playoff-bound Chicago Bulls hold the key to their own destiny.

With two games left, the Bulls will look to keep fighting for postseason positioning in the Eastern Conference when they visit the struggling Washington Wizards on Sunday.

Chicago and Cleveland (48-32) are tied for the second place, but the Bulls hold the tiebreaker if both finish with identical records due to a better division mark.

If the Bulls fail to secure the second seed, they would likely meet the defending champion Miami Heat in a rematch of last seasons first-round series.

Kirk Hinrich scored 20 points to help Chicago claim its fifth win in six contests with Friday's impressive 100-81 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats.

Washington has been on a horrific downward spiral without the services of injured All-Stars Gilbert Arenas (knee) and Caron Butler (hand).

The Wizards are in danger of falling out of the sixth spot in the East as they are just two games ahead of New Jersey (38-41) with three games remaining.

DeShawn Stevenson scored 25 points and Jarvis Hayes added 20 as Washington snapped its six-game slide with a 98-85 victory at Atlanta.

The Wizards are amidst their longest home skid in four years, dropping four in a row here for the first time since losing five straight during the 2003-04 season.
