Warriors look to fight for postseason berth

Apr 15, 2007 - 3:09 PM Minnesota (32-47) at Golden State (39-40) 1:30 pm EDT

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- The Golden State Warriors long playoff drought could be nearing an end.

The surging Warriors will go for their seventh victory in eight games when the shorthanded Minnesota Timberwolves come calling Sunday.

Golden State continued their late-season push toward a playoff berth with Friday's 125-108 triumph over the Sacramento Kings.

Without a playoff appearance since the 1993-94 season, the Warriors are tied with the Los Angeles Clippers (39-40) for the final postseason spot in the Western Conference with three games left. Both are one-half game behind the seventh-place Lakers (40-40).

The Warriors and Clippers split in their season series and if both finish the regular season tied, Golden State would not win the tiebreaker because they own a worst Pacific Division record.

"We're just trying to make the playoffs," Warriors swingman Matt Barnes said.

Golden State has posted an impressive 13-5 mark in its last 18 games and is looking to reach .500 for the first time since early January, when it was 18-18.

The lowly Timberwolves suffered their fourth straight defeat Friday, a 110-91 loss to the San Antonio Spurs.

Minnesota forward Kevin Garnett missed his second straight game with his injured right quadriceps and is out indefinitely while he seeks a second opinion.
