Pacers go for series sweep of Hawks

Apr 17, 2007 - 3:20 PM Indiana (35-45) at Atlanta (29-52) 7:00 pm EDT

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- For the first time in 10 years, the Indiana Pacers are playing a meaningless game at the end of the season. The Atlanta Hawks are used to that.

The Pacers, who were eliminated from playoff contention on Sunday, go for the season sweep of the injury-ravaged Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday.

Indiana won the first three meetings from the Hawks by an average margin of 17.3 points.

The Pacers somehow stayed in playoff contention, despite losing 15 of 18 games at one point during the season. They were eliminated by the New Jersey Nets, 111-107 on Sunday and will miss the playoffs for the first time since the 1996-97 campaign.

The Hawks are about to complete their eighth straight losing season.

Atlanta, which has lost eight of its last 10 games, has been playing without injured starters Joe Johnson, Speedy Claxton, and Zaza Pachulia.

Troy Murphy scored 22 points and Jamaal Tinsely had 14 assists in the Pacers' 113-90 win over Atlanta on March 17.
