Magic look to improve playoff seeding

Apr 17, 2007 - 3:28 PM Orlando (38-42) at Washington (40-40) 7:00 pm EDT

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Orlando Magic became the last team in the Eastern Conference to clinch a playoff spot. Now they hope to improve their seeding.

The Magic (38-42) visit the sixth-seeded Washington Wizards (40-40) on Tuesday.

Orlando clinched the final postseason berth in the East - its first in four years - with an 88-86 victory over Boston on Sunday. Hedo Turkoglu led the way with 20 points for the Magic, winners of four of their last five games.

Along with current No. 7 seed New Jersey (40-41), the Magic and Wizards continue to jockey for seeding.

Washington has lost seven of its last eight contests, including an embarrassing 101-68 defeat to Chicago on Sunday.

DeShawn Stevenson paced the Wizards with 13 points.

Washington has won its last two games against Orlando after losing the first matchup of the season. But the Wizards are clearly a different team without All-Star guard Gilbert Arenas (torn knee ligament) and forward Caron Butler (broken hand). Butler suffered the injury on April 1. Two games after that, Arenas tore his left knee.

It's possible that Butler may be able to return if the Wizards advance in the playoffs.
