Orlando looks to improve playoff seed

Apr 18, 2007 - 2:43 PM Miami (44-37) at Orlando (39-42) 7:00 pm EDT

ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- The Orlando Magic enter the final game of the season with a chance to improve their playoff seeding.

Orlando has won three straight, including a 95-89 victory over the Washington Wizards (40-41) on Tuesday, heading into the season finale against the Miami Heat.

If the Magic (39-42), Wizards and New Jersey Nets (40-41) end up a three-way tie, then the Nets would be the sixth seed, Orlando the seventh and Washington the eighth. The Wizards close the season at Indiana on Wednesday while the Nets host the Chicago Bulls.

Orlando can move into the seventh seed with a victory over Miami combined with a Washington loss to Indiana.

The Heat will likely rest most of their starters before they enter the playoffs as a No. 4 seed. They will face either the Bulls or Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round. Miami beat Chicago, 4-2, in the first round of the playoffs last year.

James Posey suffered wrist and shoulder injuries in Miami's 91-89 loss to Boston on Monday, but is expected to be ready for the playoffs.
