Clippers sluggish in loss to CSKA Moscow

Oct 7, 2006 - 3:10 PM MOSCOW (Ticker) -- The second of back-to-back games appeared too much for the Los Angeles Clippers to overcome against one of Russia's top teams.

Chris Kaman scored 15 points as the Clippers fell behind early en route to a 94-75 loss to CSKA Moscow in the second of their two preseason games at the Russian capital.

One of four teams holding training camp overseas as part of NBA Europe Live, Los Angeles did not appear to have much focus coming off a game Friday, shooting 2-of-16 on 3-pointers and struggling to protect the ball against a much more aggressive Russian squad.

The Clippers were coming off a 98-91 victory over BC Khimki in which young point guard Shaun Livingston started in place of veteran Sam Cassell, scoring 19 points with five assists.

The growth of the 21-year-old guard hit a bump Saturday as Livingston mustered only eight points and did not show much playmaking flair. Cassell returned to the starting five, scoring eight points but missing all four shots from the arc.

Kaman was one of the few bright spots for Los Angeles, shooting 6-of-12 from the field and pulling down 11 rebounds, including six offensive.

Corey Maggette scored 13 points and Tim Thomas added 10 for the Clippers, who will have more than a week off before facing the Phoenix Suns in their next preseason game October 17.

A former teammate at Duke with Clippers Maggette and Elton Brand, Trajan Langdon led the Russian squad with 17 points.

Tomas Van Den Spiegel added 16 points for CSKA Moscow, which scored 31 points in the second quarter to grab a 52-39 halftime lead.
