Carter, Nets look to knock out Raptors in Game Six

May 4, 2007 - 12:41 PM Toronto at New Jersey 8:00 pm EDT Eastern Conference First Round Game Six

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Vince Carter and the New Jersey Nets hope to put the Toronto Raptors in their rear-view mirror.

Carter and the Nets look to advance on Friday when they face the Raptors in Game Six of their Eastern Conference first-round series.

New Jersey lost to Toronto, 98-96, on Tuesday, falling just short after rallying from a 20-point deficit.

Carter scored 30 points and Richard Jefferson added 23 for the Nets, who are trying to push their way to the Eastern Conference semifinals for the fifth time in six years.

The Nets will look for leadership from Jason Kidd, who is averaging 13.2 points, 10.4 rebounds and 12.8 assists for the series. New Jersey is 8-2 in potential clinching games since Kidd joined the team before the 2001-02 season.

The Raptors are not as set at their quarterback position due to injuries to starting point guard T.J. Ford (neck, arm and shoulder pain) and backup Jose Calderon (ankle). Ford collided with Carter in the first half and Calderon turned his ankle late in the fourth quarter.

Calderon led Toronto with 25 points and had help from Andrea Bargnani and Anthony Parker, who each had 18.

The only other time the Raptors faced elimination in a seven-game series was the 2001 Eastern semifinals vs. Philadelphia. Toronto was down 3-2, but won Game Six at home before losing to the 76ers in the seventh game.
