Kidd, Nets face off vs. James, Cavaliers

May 6, 2007 - 12:45 PM New Jersey at Cleveland 1:00 ET Eastern Conference Semifinals Game One

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Jason Kidd is playing at the top of his game right now, which is not good news for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Kidd and the No. 6 seed New Jersey Nets visit LeBron James and the No. 2 seed Cavaliers in the first game of the Eastern Conference semifinals on Sunday.

Kidd, one of three players ever to average a triple-double in a playoff series, was up to his old tricks as New Jersey upended No. 3 seed Toronto in six games.

The seven-time All-Star averaged 14.0 points, 13.2 assists, and 10.0 rebounds to join Wilt Chamberlain and Magic Johnson as the only players to average a triple-double in a series more than once.

Meanwhile, the Cavaliers are led by James, who was not too shabby himself in a sweep of the undermanned Washington Wizards. The 23-year-old averaged 27.8 points, 8.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists despite a sore ankle.

The Cavaliers will have a tougher time with the Nets, who are healthy, unlike Washington, which was missing All-Stars Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler.

Stopping Kidd will be the key for Cleveland. The Nets will try and run with the seven-time All-Star leading the way, along with Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson.
