Raptors host Pacers north of the border

Dec 28, 2011 - 3:59 PM (Sports Network) - A pair of teams trying to build on season-opening wins meet north of the border Wednesday when the Toronto Raptors kick off the home portion of their schedule by hosting the Indiana Pacers.

Veteran point guard Jose Calderon finished with 15 points, 11 assists and six rebounds on Monday, leading a balanced scoring attack as the Raptors earned a 104-96 victory over the Cavaliers.

Seven Toronto players scored in double figures. In addition to Calderon, DeMar DeRozan had 15, while Ed Davis and Leandro Barbosa both netted 14 points. Andrea Bargnani and Amir Johnson scored 13 apiece, while Jerryd Bayless ended with 10.

The Raptors shot better than 53 percent in winning their first game under new head coach Dwane Casey, who was named to the position in June after Toronto had gone 22-60 during the 2010-11 season under Jay Triano.

"It's one game," Casey said. "I don't want to get too excited on wins and I don't want to get too upset on losses. There are 65 more games."

The Pacers, meanwhile, took their home opener on Monday when David West, Roy Hibbert and Tyler Hansbrough each recorded double-doubles as Indiana downed the Detroit Pistons, 91-79.

Hansbrough had 15 points and 13 rebounds, West, a high-profile, free-agent acquisition, finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Roy Hibbert netted 16 points with 14 boards for the Pacers, who made their first playoff appearance since 2006 last season.

"We've got a strong front court on this team, which I am very excited about," Pacers head coach Frank Vogel said. "We're going to be a strong offensive rebounding team."

The Pacers were playing their first game since the interim tag was removed from Vogel, who led Indiana to a 20-18 finish last year when he took over for the fired Jim O'Brien.

Home cooking has meant everything in this series recently with the host taking 11 straight. The Pacers have lost in their last five visits to Toronto and eight of nine overall.
