Jazz welcome Sixers to Salt Lake City

Dec 30, 2011 - 3:58 PM (Sports Network) - The 76ers will resume a grueling, season-opening five-game road trip Friday against a Utah Jazz club searching to avoid its worst start in 32 years.

The Jazz head into their home opener tonight at 0-2 after getting trounced by Denver, 117-100, on Wednesday. Al Jefferson led Utah with 19 points and five rebounds in that one, while rookie Alec Burks scored 15 points in under 10 minutes of action.

Paul Millsap netted 13 points and grabbed eight boards, while C.J. Miles also had 13 points for the Jazz, who haven't opened 0-3 since starting the 1979-80 season with four consecutive defeats.

"We let [the Nuggets] go where they wanted to go on the floor early," Jazz head coach Tyrone Corbin said. "As a result, they got lobs, they got drives to the basket, too many things, so we have to get it figured out. We've been talking about creating an identity, and the identity we have right now is that they can get whatever they want to get, and we can't settle for that."

The Jazz should have a chance to turn things around since they will play 15 of their next 20 games at home.

Philadelphia, meanwhile, improved to 1-1 on its trek Wednesday in Phoenix when Andre Iguodala led a balanced Sixers attack with 15 points, six assists and four steals as Philadelphia rolled over the Suns 103-83 at US Airways Center.

Jrue Holiday and Thaddeus Young also tallied 15 points, while Lou Williams chipped in 13 and Evan Turner joined Jodie Meeks with 12 each for the Sixers, who recovered from a season-opening loss to Portland.

The Sixers used a 19-0 run to start the second half to take control.

"As an announcer I always said teams don't warm as well after halftime as before the game," Sixers coach Doug Collins said. "I have been adamant about coming out and warming up well and trying to hit them hard the first five minutes [of the second half.]"

Philadelphia will finish its trip with visits to Golden State and New Orleans.

Salt Lake City has traditionally been a house of horrors for the Sixers. Philly has dropped six straight there and 20 of 22 overall.
