Kings wrap up homestand vs. Hornets
Jan 1, 2012 - 3:44 PM (Sports Network) - Sacramento will try to salvage the finale of a three-game homestand tonight when they welcome the New Orleans Hornets to California's capital. The Kings fell to 0-2 on the residency Saturday when a Knicks team minus Amare Stoudemire routed them, 114-92.
Marcus Thornton netted 14 points for Sacramento, which has lost three straight since opening the season with a win over the Lakers. Tyreke Evans and Jason Thompson both chipped in with 13 points while Donte Greene finished with 10.
"They jumped on us early. They were hitting three's and they were executing," Kings head coach Paul Westphal said. "We were never able to fall back into the game."
The Hornets, meanwhile, fell for the first time on Friday when Hakim Warrick netted a game-high 18 points to lead the Phoenix Suns past New Orleans, 93-78, in the Big Easy
Without top scorer Eric Gordon, Carl Landry paced an ugly offensive performance for the Hornets with 17 points as New Orleans shot just 28.9 percent in the contest -- the second-lowest mark in franchise history.
Jarrett Jack finished with 12 points and Emeka Okafor wrapped up New Orleans' double-digit scorers with 10. Okafor also had 16 rebounds.
"I didn't have the team ready to play tonight," Hornets head coach Monty Williams said. "I thought we didn't play hard, and that's a sign that I didn't do what we needed to do yesterday to have the team ready."
Gordon, who was acquired in the blockbuster trade that sent Chris Paul to the Clippers, bruised his knee in the season opener and has missed the team's past two games. He is still listed as day-to-day but is unlikely to play tonight.
The Hornets have won four of five and eight of their last 10 meetings with Sacramento.
