Parker leads Spurs over Warriors
Jan 5, 2012 - 5:56 AM San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Tony Parker had 21 points and eight assists, as the San Antonio Spurs made it 27 consecutive home wins over the Golden State Warriors with a 101-95 victory. The Warriors' last win at San Antonio came on February 14, 1997. Golden State has also lost 13 straight overall in the series.
Richard Jefferson tallied 17 points and five rebounds for the Spurs, who played their first game since losing Manu Ginobili. The swingman fractured the fifth metacarpal on his shooting hand in the second quarter of Monday's 106-96 loss at Minnesota. He is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.
Tim Duncan donated 15 points and 11 rebounds for San Antonio, which is off to a 4-0 start at home for the second time in three seasons. DeJuan Blair added 12 points and nine boards.
"It was good for our confidence," Parker said. "We're going to play a long time without Manu. In a schedule like this, you have to win games at home. It was a big one for us and now we have a big one tomorrow."
Monta Ellis ended with a season-high 38 points and seven assists for the Warriors, who have lost three in a row.
Stephen Curry had 20 points and eight assists before re-injuring his right ankle in the third quarter.
"I got the steal. It was either a steal or a deflection but I got the ball," Curry said. "Put up a pump fake in transition and took off on my right foot. I pushed off on my toe and it flipped over. It was just a re-aggravation of the same thing that has been happening. It is another frustrating incident that I have to deal with."
Trailing by eight, 88-80, with 6:46 to play, the Spurs went on a 15-2 run to take the lead. Daniel Green and Parker each had four points during the spurt to give the home team a 95-90 edge with 2:12 left.
Golden State's Kwame Brown missed two big foul shots, but Green was off the mark with a three-pointer at the other end.
Ellis did all he could do to keep the Warriors in the game, hitting a three- pointer with 1:40 left to cut the gap to two.
Following a Jefferson missed jumper, Ellis turned the ball over. Parker made a pair of free throws to make it a 97-93 contest with 54 seconds to play.
Brown's layup kept Golden State alive, but Parker made an 18-foot jumper at the other end with 27.5 ticks remaining.
Ellis' missed three-pointer and two Parker free throws sealed Golden State's fate.
The Warriors led by as many as 10 in the first half and took a 53-45 lead into the locker room.
San Antonio used a 7-0 spurt midway through the third quarter to take a 61-60 margin with 5:09 to go.
But Golden State fought back and took a 75-70 edge into the fourth.
