Winless Wizards square off with Knicks in DC
Jan 6, 2012 - 3:42 PM (Sports Network) - The Washington Wizards are the only winless team remaining in the NBA and are off to the worst start in franchise history at 0-6.With the New York Knicks set to invade the nation's capital Friday night, it doesn't look good for Washington to post its first win of the season.
The Wizards dropped a 103-85 decision the last time out on Wednesday against the Orlando Magic in the finale of a two-game road trip. Nick Young scored 17 points and John Wall had 14 points and five assists for the Wizards, who will begin a three-game homestand tonight versus the Knicks, Timberwolves and Raptors and are 0-2 as the host this season.
"To start off 0-for-12 against a team like that, that plays great at home, it's tough," Wall said of the team's early shooting woes.
Washington has lost seven in a row dating back to last season.
New York has fallen on hard times since edging rival Boston on Christmas, having lost two straight and four of five games since.
In Wednesday's 118-110 loss versus the Charlotte Bobcats at Madison Square Garden, Carmelo Anthony scored 32 points and Amare Stoudemire added 25 points and 12 rebounds for the Knicks, who were coming off Monday's home loss to Toronto. Stoudemire had missed two straight games with a balky ankle.
"We've just got to put together four good quarters of defense," Knicks guard Landry Fields said.
Anthony's 22 points in the fourth quarter fell two shy of the franchise's record shared by Willis Reed and Allan Houston. He is second in the NBA in scoring with 27.8 points, trailing Miami's LeBron James (29.9 ppg).
The Knicks will play two in a row and four of six games on the road.
New York swept a three-game series with Washington last season and has won six straight and 10 of the past 12 meetings between the teams. Wall averaged 13.0 points, 7.3 assists and 5.3 rebounds in three games versus the Knicks last year. Stoudemire averaged 28 points and 7.7 rebounds in that stretch.
