Cavs down Timberwolves

Jan 7, 2012 - 4:41 AM Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Antawn Jamison scored 22 points to lead Cleveland to a 98-87 win over Minnesota Friday.

Anderson Varejao posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds while Kyrie Irving poured in 14 points and had five assists for the Cavaliers, winners in three of their last four.

Kevin Love had another double-double with 28 points and 14 boards and rookie Derrick Williams had 12 points for the Timberwolves, who have lost six times this season.

Cleveland took a seven-point lead into the break after outscoring Minnesota 18-12 over the final 6:45 of the first half.

"We pushed on makes and misses and I think that helped a lot," said Cavaliers guard Ramon Sessions.

The Timberwolves came within seven in the third after Love sank a pair of free throws with just over three minutes left in the quarter, but a 10-5 run to close the stanza put the Cavs up 76-64 going into the final frame.

A Danny Gibson trey at the 7:12 mark made it an 18-point game before Minnesota looked poised to make it a game again. A Love three before a highlight-reel alley-oop slam from Williams pulled the Timberwolves within 12.

But a Varejao tip-in coupled with a Jamison three put Cleveland up 17 at 95-78.

"It was just a bad night," said Timberwolves center Darko Milicic. "We just came out flat."
