Pacers rout Bobcats
Jan 8, 2012 - 4:35 AM Indianapolis, IN (Sports Network) - Roy Hibbert posted 20 points and eight rebounds to help Indiana dominate the second half in a 99-77 rout of Charlotte.The Pacers, who beat the Bobcats for the seventh straight time, held a 56-28 scoring advantage over the final 24 minutes.
Tyler Hansbrough contributed 15 points and Darren Collison ended with 14 points and eight boards for the Pacers, who have won back-to-back contests. Danny Granger shook off a sprained left ankle and scored 13 along with teammate George Hill.
"Slow start, strong finish," Pacers coach Frank Vogel said. "Our second unit was great again."
D.J. Augustin had 20 points for the Bobcats, who fizzled in the second half and are 1-6 since starting the season with a victory against Milwaukee. Gerald Henderson chipped in 14 points and 10 rebounds for Charlotte, which shot 21.7 percent (10-of-46) in the second half.
"We did not play tough. They banged us up and we didn't respond," Bobcats coach Paul Silas said.
Indiana, which was behind as many as nine in the opening quarter, shot better than 51 percent in the second half.
Charlotte held a six-point lead at the half, but were horrendous shooting the ball in the third quarter at a 5-of-25 clip. Augustin had six of the team's 14 points in the period.
Meanwhile, Hibbert scored eight and Collison seven during the pivotal stanza, one that began on a 15-2 Indiana burst. A layup from David West capped the rally for a 58-51 Indiana advantage.
The Pacers were ahead, 71-63, going to the fourth and quickly built the lead to 14 points. A free throws from Dahntay Jones expanded the difference to 77-63, and the double-digit margin remained the rest of the way.
Augustin had nine points in the opening quarter, one which the Bobcats left holding a 30-22 lead. The visitors led the entire second quarter.
"We didn't come out with enough fire and energy tonight. It got us in a hole," West said. "Our bench came in and gave us a big lift."
Game Notes
West had 10 points...Byron Mullens totaled 10 points and 11 boards for Charlotte, which shot 32.6 percent...The Pacers are 3-0 at home for the first time since 2002 when they started out with seven straight home wins...At 6-2, Indiana is off to its best start since 2004-05.
