Stoudemire, Anthony lead Knicks over Bobcats

Jan 10, 2012 - 6:20 AM New York, NY (Sports Network) - Amare Stoudemire had 25 points and 12 rebounds while Carmelo Anthony scored nine of his 22 points in the fourth quarter as the New York Knicks hung on to defeat the Charlotte Bobcats, 91-87, on Monday.

Although Stoudemire and Anthony combined to shoot just 13-of-43 from the field, they both took 13 foul shots.

"It was just a will to win out there tonight," Anthony said. "Shots was going in and out, we wasn't making shots, myself, Amare. We shot 30-something percent from the field, so we had to grind it out on the defensive end and then crunch time we had to make something do."

Tyson Chandler added 20 points and 13 boards for New York, which has won three straight since losing to Charlotte last Wednesday.

Boris Diaw had 19 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists to pace the Bobcats, who have lost three straight and fell to 2-7 on the season.

Down by as many as 11 points in the third quarter, the Bobcats clawed back and a D.J. Augustin three-pointer from the right wing tied the game, 82-82, with just under three minutes to play in regulation.

But a pair of Anthony layups pushed the lead back to four with 1:34 remaining.

Gerald Henderson netted a jumper and Anthony made 1-of-2 from the line on the other end to make it an 87-84 game with 33.8 left.

D.J. White missed a jumper from the right elbow on Charlotte's ensuing possession and Landry Fields made 1-of-2 from the line to make it a four-point game.

Augustin's off-balance three-pointer from the right corner kept the Bobcats alive, 88-87, with 10.0 second to go. Anthony hit a pair of free throws on the other end to put the Knicks up three.

Off the inbounds pass, Charlotte quickly pushed the ball up the floor and Augustin got a wide-open look from the left wing to tie it, but his shot clanked off the front of the rim. Anthony corralled the rebound and made 1- of-2 from the line to seal it.

"I wasn't expecting to get it and be so wide open. I had a good look, it just came up short," Augustin said of the potentially game-tying shot.

Anthony scored eight of New York's final nine points.

After taking a quick 10-0 lead after connecting on four of its first five shots, Charlotte made just five of its last 19 shots to conclude the first quarter as the Knicks took a 24-21 lead into the second.

Diaw and White kept the Bobcats in the contest, combining for 23 first-half points on 10-of-13 shooting as Charlotte trailed, 50-45, heading into the break.

Anthony's technical free throw late in the third gave New York its largest lead of the contest, 72-61.

Game Notes

Iman Shumpert had 16 points and six rebounds for New York...White finished with 15 points and seven rebounds...The Knicks shot 38 percent from the field and connected on just 1-of-10 from beyond the arc, but were 30-of-40 from the charity stripe.
