Blazers entertain Clippers in Rip City

Jan 10, 2012 - 3:52 PM (Sports Network) - Portland hopes to remain perfect in Rip City and avenge one of its two losses on the season Tuesday when they host the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Clips come in on a three-game winning streak which started with a 93-88 home win over the Blazers on New Year's Day. Most recently LA got the best of Milwaukee on Saturday when Blake Griffin totaled 22 points and 14 rebounds, as the Clippers held off the Bucks, 92-86, at Staples Center.

Caron Butler contributed 20 points for the Clippers, who have beaten the Bucks in 11 of the last 12 meetings in Los Angeles. Chauncey Billups, who scored 19, continued his impressive free throw shooting, making all seven of his attempts. He hasn't missed in 24 tries this season.

Chris Paul had a season-low nine points, but did hand out seven assists and record four steals in the win.

"We didn't play well in the first half. At halftime we made a few adjustments," Billups said. "Defensively, we picked it up. The shots we were missing in the first half, we made in the second half."

The Blazers, meanwhile, have won three of four since falling to the Clips with their latest win coming Sunday in Portland after LaMarcus Aldridge scored 28 points, grabbed eight rebounds and came up with four steals, leading the Trail Blazers to a 98-78 victory over the turnover-prone Cavaliers.

Wesley Matthews added 24 points for Portland, which bounced back from a 102-77 thumping at the hands of the Suns on Friday by netting 28 points on 24 Cleveland turnovers. Gerald Wallace donated 16 points for Portland, which shot 16-of-18 from the foul line.

"Once we got our second wind in the second half we started playing better basketball...and were able to break this game open," Blazers head coach Nate McMillan said.

The Clippers halted a five-game hiccup to the Blazers on New Year's Day by holding Wallace scoreless. The energetic forward has been a different player at home this season, however. The former All-Star is averaging 21.2 points at the Rose Garden vs. just 4.7 on the road.
