Jennings, Jackson help Bucks dodge Spurs

Jan 11, 2012 - 5:23 AM Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Stephen Jackson finished with 34 points and assisted on Brandon Jennings' key basket in the final minute, as the Bucks held on for a 106-103 victory against the Spurs in Andrew Bogut's return.

Jackson had eight assists while Jennings totaled 11, along with 15 points. Bogut had missed the last four games because of personal issues, but returned to post 14 points and 11 rebounds. The effort helped Milwaukee halt a five- game slide.

The Spurs made 60 percent of their shots, but Richard Jefferson missed a potential game-tying three in the final moments and San Antonio dropped its second contest in a row.

"They kept it close," Jennings said of the Spurs. "They had a good look at a shot, he just missed it. The great thing is we didn't go into overtime with those guys."

Tony Parker finished with 22 points and eight assists for the Spurs, but committed seven of the team's 16 turnovers. Tim Duncan had 20 points, eight boards and seven assists in the setback.

San Antonio carried an 81-79 edge into the fourth quarter and had a five-point lead when Kawhi Leonard sank a jumper with just under 10 minutes to play. However, the Bucks followed with a Drew Gooden layup, and Jackson made four free throws to put Milwaukee ahead 89-88.

The teams went back-and-forth down the stretch, and the Bucks were on the verge of taking control with 3:40 to go, after consecutive layups by Jackson and Ersan Ilyasova made it 102-95.

But back-to-back buckets by DeJuan Blair and two foul shots by Duncan had the Spurs within one. San Antonio had a chance to move in front after Jackson turned the ball over, but Parker missed a jumper.

At the other end, Jennings connected on a bucket for a 104-101 contest.

Moments later, San Antonio was back in position to take the lead, after Leonard had hit a jumper and Jennings missed. But a turnover by Parker led to Jennings' dunk with 50.9 seconds to play.

Duncan was called for an offensive foul on the ensuing Spurs possession, and they had one more chance after Jackson lost the ball, but Jefferson missed from long range.

The Spurs fell to 0-4 on the road this season. They are 6-0 at home.

"We have to play better on the road than we do at home and we have yet to do that," said Jefferson.

The Spurs led by as many as 10 in the first quarter, when they made 15-of-22 shots. But the Bucks also had offensive success and were within 33-25 moving to the second.

Milwaukee's starting backcourt shined in the second quarter, when Carlos Delfino scored 10 and Jennings had nine points. The production helped the Bucks tie the game, 59-59, at the break, and the third quarter was back-and- forth.

Delfino ended with 18 points...Leonard scored 19 off the Spurs' bench, while Blair had 11 points...The Bucks snapped a four-game slide vs. the Spurs...The Bucks announced Tuesday that forward/guard Mike Dunleavy, Jr. (groin) should be participating in full basketball activity in 2-4 weeks. The 31-year-old has missed the last five games.
