Clippers host Heat in Hollywood

Jan 11, 2012 - 3:54 PM (Sports Network) - A pair of high-profile teams coming off tough road losses meet at Staples Center Wednesday when the Clippers host the Miami Heat.

The Clippers, who are opening up a three-game homestand tonight, lost for the first time in four contests on Tuesday in Portland when Gerald Wallace led five teammates in double-figures with 20 points as the Trail Blazers edged LA, 105-97.

Caron Butler led the Clippers with 20 points and six rebounds, while Chauncey Billups had 19 points and Blake Griffin contributed a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Mo Williams ended with 14 points and Chris Paul netted 11 for Los Angeles despite battling foul trouble throughout the contest.

"We did a good job of fighting in the second half, but we gave up too many uncontested shots," Griffin said.

The Clips, who are 3-1 as the host, will also face the LA Lakers and New Jersey on their residency.

The Heat, meanwhile, got Dwyane Wade back in the lineup but fell to 2-1 on a five-game road trip with a 111-106 overtime loss at Golden State. The Warriors' Nate Robinson scored eight straight points during a fourth quarter surge in that one, as Golden State rallied from a 17-point deficit to earn the win.

Wade played for the first time in four games and scored 34 points, somewhat quelling fears that he had plantar fasciitis in his left foot. The former NBA Finals MVP missed a jumper that could have won the game at the end of regulation, however.

"I did feel like I had a layoff but it was good to get back on the court," Wade said. "I just tried to be aggressive early."

LeBron James added 26 with 11 rebounds and missed a potential game-tying three in the extra frame as Miami had a three-game winning streak halted and suffered just its second loss of the season.

The Heat, who are 5-1 as the visitor on the season, will finish their trek with a visit to Denver on Friday.

The Clippers have won three straight and eight of 10 over Miami at Staples Center.
