Hansbrough pushes Pacers past Raptors
Jan 14, 2012 - 3:53 AM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Tyler Hansbrough's offensive rebound and ensuing free throws with 14.8 seconds left gave Indiana some breathing room as the Pacers took a 95-90 comeback victory over the Toronto Raptors.Hansbrough finished with 13 points and six rebounds to go along with George Hill's season-high 22 points in the Pacers' fourth win in five games.
"You have to give Toronto credit for the hard-fought game," said Pacers head coach Frank Vogel. "I'm proud of our guys for grinding out a game to get a win."
DeMar DeRozan paced the Raptors with 23 points, while Leandro Barbosa dropped in 20 and Jose Calderon had 15 with nine assists as Toronto dropped its third straight game.
DeRozan netted 14 points in the first quarter as the Raptors dominated the opening 12 minutes to take a 27-15 lead into the second.
But after a James Johnson alley-oop dunk near the midpoint of the second quarter gave Toronto a 40-24 lead for its largest advantage of the game, Indiana went on an 8-0 run to get within eight.
A pair of Ed Davis free throws put the Raptors back up by double digits, but the Pacers scored the next six points to cut the lead to four and trailed, 45-40, at the half.
The Raptors stretched their lead back to double digits, 59-49, with a Calderon three-pointer with 5:12 left in the third.
Indiana, though, closed out the quarter with a 16-6 swing to even game at 65 for the first tie since a 2-2 score in the first.
The Pacers' first lead of the game came on the opening bucket of the fourth quarter when Hill converted on a layup and neither team led by more than two points over the next 11 minutes, a span that saw 11 ties and eight lead changes.
Then with the game knotted at 90 and 32.7 seconds left on the clock, the Pacers' David West was fouled and awarded two free throws. He made the first but his second rimmed out.
Hansbrough then came out of a pile with the ball and was immediately fouled. He connected on his two shots to put Indiana ahead, 93-90.
Coming out of a timeout, the Pacers decided to foul Jamaal Magloire instead of letting Toronto attempt a game-tying three-pointer. It proved to be a good decision, as his first free-throw attempt was well short, missing everything, and his second was too long.
Hansbrough grabbed that rebound as well to seal the victory for the Pacers.
"I didn't know they were trying to foul but it happened. I should have flip- flopped [Ed] Davis on top, he was the better free-throw shooter," Raptors head coach Dwane Casey said about the play. "It's on me. I take the blame for that."
Game Notes
Toronto's leading scorer Andrea Bargnani missed the game with a strained left calf...The Pacers' Danny Granger was ejected late in the second quarter for receiving his second technical foul of the game...Indiana held a 38-32 rebounding advantage.
