76ers aim to stay perfect at home vs. Nuggets
Jan 18, 2012 - 3:50 PM (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia 76ers are off to their best home start in nine seasons. They will try to win their seventh straight game at the Wells Fargo Center this evening versus the Denver Nuggets. The Sixers continued their impressive start on Monday, as Jrue Holiday scored a season-high 24 points and Andre Iguodala added 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals to propel Philadelphia to a 94-82 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.
"I thought Jrue Holiday had his best game of the year. He was fabulous," 76ers head coach Doug Collins said.
Lou Williams netted 17 points off the bench for the Sixers, who have won nine of their last 10 games overall and are off to their best home start since winning their first 10 of the 2002-03 campaign. The 10-3 record is the best start to a season since going 11-2 in 2000-01, which was the last time the team advanced to the NBA Finals.
The Sixers, who are also tied with Orlando for the second-best record overall in the Eastern Conference, 1 1/2 games behind Chicago, are holding opponents to just 79.5 points-per-game at home this season.
Philadelphia, though, may have its hands full tonight, as it faces a Nuggets team that won three of four overall and has been held under 100 points just three times all season.
Like the Sixers, Denver enters on the heels of a win over the Bucks, as Corey Brewer scored 22 points, leading the Nuggets to a 105-95 win on Tuesday.
"He brings energy to our team, and usually energy and aggressiveness are positive personalities of a successful team," said Denver coach George Karl
Al Harrington added 16 points while Danilo Gallinari and Nene both had 14 for the Nuggets, who bounced back from Sunday's loss to the Jazz. Arron Afflalo and Ty Lawson added to the balanced attack with 11 points apiece.
"Our mental approach to the game was much, much better to start the game, especially on the defensive end," said Afflalo, who also blocked two shots.
The Nuggets, who are in the midst of a five-game road trip, are 3-3 away from home this season.
Philly has won three straight in this series.
