Spurs seek another win over Kings
Jan 20, 2012 - 3:56 PM (Sports Network) - San Antonio finally recorded its first road win this week and will now try to follow that up by staying perfect in the Alamo City when the club plays host to Sacramento. The Southwest Division-leading Spurs have beaten the Kings 12 straight times and in 17 of the past 18 meetings in the series.
Most recently for San Antonio, Gary Neal's three-pointer late in overtime on Wednesday proved to be the game-winner, as the Spurs hung on for an 85-83 win over the Magic, snapping a 10-game skid on the road dating back to last season.
Tony Parker scored a game-high 25 points and added nine assists for San Antonio, which is 1-5 as the visitor on the year vs. 9-0 at the AT&T Center. Tim Duncan had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Richard Jefferson finished with 11 points.
"We continued to make stops, we continued to push, we continued to find ways to keep the lead and then give the lead back up," said Duncan. "It was a great victory for us, we needed one on the road and it was a good one."
The Kings, meanwhile, also come in on a high note after upsetting an improved Indiana team on Wednesday. Francisco Garcia scored 10 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter in that one as Sacramento mounted a huge comeback to down the Pacers, 92-88.
Marcus Thornton added 17 points and DeMarcus Cousins had 13 with 19 rebounds as the Kings outscored the Pacers by a 26-8 margin in the final frame to snap a three-game skid.
"I don't know how we did it, but this group has some resilience," coach Keith Smart told the NBA's official website. "They fought, they found a lineup that worked, they got us back in the game and then they closed it out."
Sacramento, however, is just 1-7 on the road this season and has lost 14 of its last 16 games in River City.
