Knicks visit Kyrie and the Cavs

Jan 25, 2012 - 3:34 PM (Sports Network) - The New York Knicks could have Baron Davis in the lineup this evening when they visit the Cleveland Cavaliers at Quicken Loans Arena.

Davis has yet to suit up for the Knicks because of a balky back that led to his release from Cleveland. However, the 13-year veteran began practicing with the Knicks on Monday and head coach Mike D'Antoni wouldn't rule out Davis making his season debut against his former team tonight.

"I said that so I don't lie to you," D'Antoni said. "I have no idea. I wouldn't rule anything out."

The Knicks didn't need Davis, or Carmelo Anthony for that matter, on Tuesday, as Tyson Chandler had 20 points and 17 rebounds to help New York snap its six- game losing streak with a 111-78 rout of the Charlotte Bobcats.

Anthony scored a career-low one point on 0-of-7 shooting from the field, but did help out in other areas by pulling down 11 rebounds. Anthony -- who's been hampered by a sprained ankle and a hurt non-shooting wrist -- came into Tuesday's contest shooting just 33.3 percent over his last four games.

"I'm sure his wrist is bothering him, but he contributed 11 rebounds and spaced the floor and let other guys do what they do," Knicks head coach Mike D'Antoni said.

Amare Stoudemire added 18 points and eight rebounds while Landry Fields poured in 18 points for the Knicks, who outrebounded Charlotte 53-33.

"I needed a night like this where I didn't have to do too much and we still won the game by a lot," said Anthony. "We got a long road trip (three games in four nights) ahead of us. We got another one tomorrow at Cleveland so it's another day. This one is over. We won a game, team effort. Get ready for tomorrow."

While the Cavs may or not face a familiar foe tonight in Davis, they certainly faced one on Tuesday in LeBron James, whose Miami Heat handed Cleveland a 92-85 defeat.

Rookie Kyrie Irving kept Cleveland close down the stretch and finished with 17 points while Samardo Samuels scored 15 off the bench. But the Cavs fell to 1-4 against the Heat since James left to play for them before last season.

"A hard-fought effort, but we kind of beat ourselves out there," said Irving. "We had 22 turnovers and we lost by seven points. We weren't getting shots on 22 possessions."

Cleveland beat the Knicks three of the four times it played them last season and has won 12 of the last 14 meetings overall. New York has also lost eight straight and 16 of its last 19 in Cleveland.
