Pacers get rare Windy City win
Jan 26, 2012 - 5:28 AM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Danny Granger had 22 points, Roy Hibbert scored 20 and the Indiana Pacers beat the Chicago Bulls, 95-90, Wednesday night for their first victory in the Windy City in almost four years.David West chipped in 14 points, including a key runner in the lane that gave Indiana some distance down the stretch.
The Pacers snapped a six-game road losing streak against the Bulls, winning in Chicago for the first time since March 22, 2008.
"I thought we could win this game. Chicago's a good team, but so are we," said Hibbert. "Our composure went up after halftime."
Derrick Rose played his second straight game and scored 24 points, but Chicago missed Luol Deng, who sat out his second game with a torn ligament in his left wrist.
The Bulls had a four-game winning streak snapped, shooting just 21.4 percent from the field in the fourth quarter and missing shots down the stretch in a game that could have been had.
Chicago coach Tom Thibodeau didn't think his team was ready to play, and Rose respected that position.
"As a player, I didn't see it. But as a coach, he sees everything," said Rose. "So the only thing we can do is come here (next time) and go through the shootaround and the walkthough and be professional."
Ronnie Brewer scored 20 with 10 rebounds for the Bulls and hit a pair of free throws that pulled them within 90-88 with 1:33 remaining.
But West slashed into the lane and hit a running one-hander from inside the foul line to push Indiana's lead to four points.
Two Richard Hamilton free throws at the other end, the last of his 17 points, got the Bulls within two again, but Rose gave the ball up on their next trip down the floor and Brian Scalabrine missed a wide-open three-point try from the right side.
Hibbert threw down a dunk in transition, giving the Pacers a 94-90 lead with 13.1 seconds left, and Chicago turned the ball over on its next possession to seal the outcome.
The Bulls beat Indiana in five games in the first round of last year's playoffs and had won six straight home games against the Pacers in the regular season.
Earlier, Indiana had a 24-23 lead after the first quarter and watched it disappear as Chicago built a 54-44 advantage at halftime. The Pacers took a 75-74 lead into the fourth quarter after hitting their fifth three-pointer of the game during the third.
