Bucks get 1st win in Houston since 1999
Jan 26, 2012 - 4:58 AM Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Brandon Jennings and Stephen Jackson both scored 20 points as the Milwaukee Bucks beat the streaking Rockets, 105-99, on Wednesday for their first win in Houston in more than 12 years.Jennings added six assists and Mike Dunleavy Jr. scored a season-high 18 points on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc to move the Bucks to 7-10 on the season.
Milwaukee center Andrew Bogut made his 400th career start, but left early in the game with a left ankle sprain and did not return.
"It was an ankle sprain. It's hard to say now, but we'll see tomorrow," Bogut said of his status.
He missed four games earlier this season due to personal reasons, and one due to a concussion.
"I just can't seem to catch a break," said Bogut. "Coming back from injuries is tough. It's unlucky and frustrating. Someone has a voodoo doll and is putting pins in me."
Milwaukee has now won three of its last four and will play in Chicago on Friday.
Houston was led by Kevin Martin, who scored a game-high 29 points. Samuel Dalembert chipped in with a double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling down 18 rebounds but it wasn't enough as the Rockets saw their seven-game win streak come to an end.
"We gave up 63 points in the second half. There's no excuse for that," said Rockets coach Kevin McHale. "We had a great second quarter followed by a poor third quarter and then we couldn't ... we just never got any momentum in that game until late but when we started defending again it was too late."
A 20-0 run spanning almost five minutes in the third and fourth quarters proved to be the difference for the Bucks as they turned a 70-66 deficit into an 86-70 lead with 8:55 to go in the fourth.
The Rockets made a run of their own, however, as Goran Dragic capped a 20-7 surge with a driving layup to put the Rockets down 98-94 with 1:14 to play.
Jennings, though, was able to knock down four clutch free throws late in the fourth quarter to hold off the Rockets and ice the game for the Bucks.
Milwaukee came out scorching with a 12-0 start, which forced a quick timeout from Rockets coach Kevin McHale. But Houston was able to cut the deficit to 29-23 entering the second stanza.
The Rockets battled back in the second, holding the Bucks to just 13 points in the quarter as they took a 51-42 lead into intermission.
Jennings' back-to-back threes around a Luis Scola layup cut the Houston lead to 56-52 with 8:38 to play in the third quarter.
The two teams exchanged buckets until the Bucks got back-to-back treys from Dunleavy and Beno Udrih to take a 72-70 lead into the final quarter.
