Granger paces Indiana over Timberwolves
Feb 2, 2012 - 4:24 AM Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Danny Granger nailed five three-pointers and netted 29 of his season-high 36 points in the second half as the Indiana Pacers downed the Minnesota Timberwolves, 109-99."Danny Granger just came back to life and had a stellar night," Pacers head coach Frank Vogel said.
Darren Collison filled the stat sheet with 20 points, nine assists, six rebounds and two steals while Roy Hibbert added 15 points and nine rebounds for Indiana, which won its third straight game.
"Really excited about this win for our club. (A) road win on the second night of a back-to-back against a club playing at a high level. We were really excited to get out of here with a W," Vogel said.
Kevin Love had a double-double with 21 points and 17 rebounds for Minnesota, which had won three of four coming in.
It was Minnesota's third unsuccesful attempt this season to get the .500 mark, something the Timberwolves haven't done since 2007.
"We had another shot to get to .500 tonight and eventually we'll get over that hump," Love said.
With the Pacers holding a 45-41 lead at halftime, Granger and Collison combined to score 28 of Indiana's 31 points in the third quarter. The visitors took a 76-70 advantage into the final stanza.
A 9-1 spurt to start the fourth, capped by Granger's layup, gave the Pacers an 85-71 lead with 9:13 remaining.
Hibbert's short jumper gave Indiana its largest lead of 17, 96-79, midway through the fourth and the Pacers cruised from there.
Love had a huge first quarter with eight points and nine rebounds as the Timberwolves took a 25-20 advantage into the second.
With the game tied at 34 with 4:56 left in the second stanza, the Pacers used an 11-4 run to take a 45-38 lead late in the half. Martell Webster nailed a three-pointer with 1.4 seconds remaining to make it a 45-41 game heading into the locker room.
