Jazz take down Lakers
Feb 5, 2012 - 5:32 AM Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Al Jefferson scored 18 points and Paul Millsap added 16 with each pulling down 13 rebounds in Utah's 96-87 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.Josh Howard and Derrick Favors both had 12 points and Enes Kanter scored 10 for the Jazz, who used a 14-0 run in the final quarter to snap a two-game skid.
Kobe Bryant had 26 points and Pau Gasol contributed 24 points and 16 rebounds for the Lakers, who had their three-game winning streak snapped. Andrew Bynum totaled 21 points and 12 boards.
Matt Barnes hit a three-pointer with 1.5 seconds left in the third, tying the game at 67, but the Lakers wilted in the final quarter, going 5-of-17 from the field.
Lakers coach Mike Brown wasn't around to see the end of the contest. He was ejected with 8:35 left in the fourth quarter, as Utah was in the midst of its big run.
"I was trying to give our guys some juice," Brown said. "I got techs, I shouldn't have gotten two techs. I put our guys in a deeper hole than we were already in, and that probably cost the game."
Bynum went 1-of-2 from the foul line to trim LA's deficit to 69-68 with 10:31 left, but the Jazz scored the ensuing 14 points over the next four-plus minutes.
C.J. Miles highlighted the spurt with an alley-oop jam off a feed from Earl Watson, one of his 11 assists. Watson's three-pointer capped the run and the Lakers didn't get closer than eight points the rest of the way.
Watson had missed the team's previous game, Thursday at Golden State, due to a sprained left ankle.
"Earl Watson isn't even supposed to be playing right now, that's the crazy thing about it," Millsap said. "He's out there on one leg, having an amazing game for us. He's big for us."
The Lakers held a 25-22 edge after a back-and-forth opening quarter. Bynum's alley-oop jam off a pass from Gasol in the waning seconds of the half gave LA a 49-47 edge at the break and the teams see-sawed with the lead in the third.
