Lin shines again as Knicks down Wizards

Feb 9, 2012 - 5:37 AM Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Jeremy Lin's amazing debut continued Wednesday as the undrafted point guard recorded 23 points and 10 rebounds as the New York Knicks downed the Washington Wizards, 107-93.

Lin made his second career start for the undermanned Knicks, who were without stars Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony, but recorded their third straight win.

"I do what I can to help the team win every time I step on the floor and I'm not really worried about proving anything to anybody right now," said Lin.

Tyson Chandler recorded 25 points and 11 rebounds in New York's eighth consecutive victory over Washington.

John Wall netted a game-high 29 points in the Wizards' fifth loss in six games.

The Knicks held a 52-46 advantage at the half behind Steve Novak's 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting -- all three-pointers -- and 12 points from Chandler.

Lin opened the third quarter with a jumper to put New York up by eight before Washington made a push, reeling off a 12 straight points to take a 56-54 lead.

It remained a one-possession game over the next eight minutes, but after a pair of Lin free throws resulted in the quarter's sixth tie and lead change, the Knicks finished the third on a 12-4 run to take a 77-68 lead into the fourth.

Lin recorded six points, while Landry Fields and Chandler each had three in the game-changing run.

Washington never threatened in the fourth, trailing by at least seven points and by as many as 18 en route to the loss.

"This game boiled down to containment," Wizards head coach Randy Wittman said. "We couldn't contain the basketball basically all night long."

The Wizards opened the game hot while New York struggled from the floor. Washington shot 42.9 percent as the Knicks made just 25 percent of their shots in the first quarter and trailed 23-17 at the end of one.

But Novak made four of his five three-pointers in the second quarter as the Knicks rallied.

Three of Novak's long balls came in an 18-7 swing by the Knicks near the end of the second that put them ahead, 50-40, with less than two minutes remaining in the half.

Wall, though, netted four of his team's final six points to bring Washington within 52-46 at the break.

Stoudemire missed his second straight game after traveling to Florida to deal with the death of his brother. Anthony missed the contest with a strained groin he suffered on Monday...New York scored 23 points off 14 Washington turnovers...New York turned the ball over eight times, resulting in nine Washington points...The Wizards made just 2-of-17 shots from beyond the arc, while New York went 7-for-28 from three-point range.
