Nets aim to snap skid vs. Grizzlies

Feb 15, 2012 - 3:38 PM (Sports Network) - Mired in their second six-game losing streak of the season, the New Jersey Nets look to bounce back tonight against the Memphis Grizzlies at the Prudential Center.

The Nets, who also dropped six straight games from Dec. 27 - Jan. 4, haven't lost seven in a row since an eight-game slide from Nov. 30 - Dec. 14 last season and were handed their fourth straight loss at home with Saturday's 103-89 setback to the San Antonio Spurs.

All-Star reserve Deron Williams paced all scorers with 27 points for the Nets. Kris Humphries and Jordan Farmar chipped in 15 and 12, respectively, for New Jersey, which has lost eight of nine overall and fell to 3-10 as the host.

"We just made a couple mistakes again that really made it tough for us to get back in the game," Williams said. "With a team like this you can't really get down against them because it's just an uphill battle the whole game."

After hosting the Grizzlies in Newark, NJ, the Nets will play two straight and seven of their next nine games on the road. They are winless in three straight contests as the visitor. In other team news, the Nets waived injured guard Keith Bogans and filled the roster spot by signing forward Andre Emmett to a 10-day contract.

Memphis will hit the road Wednesday and is coming off a 3-2 homestand. It capped the residency with a 93-83 win over the Houston Rockets last night, as Mike Conley led the way with 21 points and Rudy Gay added 20.

Marc Gasol posted 18 points for the Grizzlies, who managed to shoot 47.9 percent and scored 27 points off 18 Houston turnovers. Tony Allen and O.J. Mayo finished with 10 points apiece in a winning effort. Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins wasn't too pleased with his team's effort down the stretch.

"We turned the ball over, just crazy turnovers," Hollins said. "Guys didn't know where to be and we couldn't really run anything. Then Conley hit the big three at the top of the key and then we started getting to the foul line."

Memphis is just 1-5 in its past six road games and 5-9 away from FedEx Forum this season. It will play two straight and four of five games at home following tonight's contest in New Jersey.

The Grizzlies and Nets are meeting for the only time this season. New Jersey swept a home-and-home series a year ago and has won four of the past six matchups between the two teams. Memphis has lost four of six trips to the Garden State.
