Magic drain 15 3s in rout of 76ers
Feb 16, 2012 - 5:19 AM Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - If the Orlando Magic live and die by the three- pointer, they not only lived on Wednesday night, they thrived.Ryan Anderson scored 27 points on 7-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc and Orlando drained 15 treys overall in a 103-87 rout of the Philadelphia 76ers at Amway Center.
Jameer Nelson tied a career-best with 14 assists and added 12 points, while Dwight Howard also had a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds for the Magic, who have won three straight and seven of nine.
"We're playing with a lot more energy," Nelson said. "It was a great team effort."
Lou Williams had 21 points and seven assists off the bench to pace the Sixers, who lost the finale of a three-game road trip after winning the first two in Cleveland and Charlotte.
Anderson lit up the scoreboard for Orlando in the first quarter. The Cal product hit 4-of-5 from beyond the arc for 12 of his 14 first-quarter points as he paced the Magic to 71.4 percent three-point shooting and a 29-16 lead after one.
"They just got out to a good start," Williams said. "It was just one of those nights."
Bolstered by the shooting of their bench, the Sixers clawed their way back into the game in the second quarter, only to watch Orlando's lead balloon again. Philadelphia's reserves drained eight of their 14 attempts from the floor for 16 points in the quarter, and an 8-2 run put the Sixers down six with just under two minutes to play. The Magic responded in force, however, scoring 10 unanswered points to end the half up 55-39.
Philadelphia continued to come up just short in the third quarter, staying within striking distance with a single-digit deficit in the final eight minutes of the frame, but never mustering enough to overcome Orlando's onslaught from three-point range. The Magic led 79-70 after the third.
Orlando held Philadelphia to just 23.8 percent field goal shooting in the fourth to prevent a final Sixers run.
