Clippers aim to rebound at Golden State
Feb 20, 2012 - 3:54 PM (Sports Network) - The Pacific Division-leading Los Angeles Clippers will travel north to take on the Golden State Warriors in Oakland. The Clippers are coming off a tough 103-100 overtime loss to fellow Western Conference power San Antonio at Staples Center on Saturday. Gary Neal sank five three-pointers, including the game-tying shot with 5.7 seconds left in regulation as well as the go-ahead trey late in overtime, to lead the Spurs to a 10th straight win in that one.
Blake Griffin had the first 20-20 game of his career with 22 points and 20 rebounds, and Randy Foye dropped in a season-high 21 points in a losing effort for Los Angeles.
"This was a tough one to swallow. We have to do a better job of closing games out," Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro said. "I'm proud of the way the guys battled."
Chris Paul added 21 points with six assists but had a key turnover, throwing a pass right to Neal with 6.9 seconds in regulation that led to the tying three.
"Man, that was probably the worst play I've been a part of since I've been in the NBA," Paul said. "We obviously gave that game away right there."
The Warriors, meanwhile, have dropped three straight after Saturday's 104-103 heartbreaker in Memphis. It was the second straight night that the Grizzlies used a last-second putback to win the game as Tony Allen's tip-in with 5.6 seconds left proved to be the difference.
Stephen Curry led the way for Golden State with 36 points and Monta Ellis chipped in 33 for the Warriors. David Lee contributed 14 points and nine rebounds.
"We shouldn't put ourselves in positions to have to fight back," said Golden State head coach Mark Jackson. "Give us credit we didn't quit, we didn't lay down. We fought back, took control of the game and put ourselves in position to win. It's just a tough way to lose."
The Clippers, who haven't lost back-to-back games since Dec. 28-30, have dropped 10 of their last 12 visits to Oakland.
