Suns host Warriors in the desert
Feb 22, 2012 - 3:32 PM (Sports Network) - The Phoenix Suns hope to head into the All-Star break on a positive note when they search for a 14th consecutive home win over Pacific Division rival Golden State tonight. The Suns have opened a six-game homestand that bridges the break with consecutive wins over the LA Lakers and Washington. Most recently All-Star Steve Nash had 12 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds as Phoenix pulled away in the second half to earn their 10th straight win over the Wizards with a 104-88 victory at US Airways Center.
Marcin Gortat added 20 points, while Channing Frye finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Suns, who haven't lost to the Wizards since dropping a 144-139 overtime decision on December 22, 2006.
"I thought we played well. We had a little bit of ups and downs but I thought we were really consistent in what we were doing," said Suns coach Alvin Gentry. "We were a little tired but I thought defensively we were good and we did a good job of rebounding the basketball."
Phoenix, which is now 7-8 at home, hasn't lost to Golden State in the desert since March 18, 2005.
The Warriors, who are starting a six-game road trip tonight, come in on a winning note, snapping a three-game skid by topping the Pacific leaders, the Clippers, on Monday. Monta Ellis scored 32 points in that one as Golden State finished with the final nine points to beat the Clips, 104-97.
David Lee added 24 points and 13 rebounds in the win, while Ekpe Udoh had a career-high 19 points and eight boards in his first start of the season.
"He was great, absolutely great," Jackson said of Udoh, who went down late with a sprained left knee and is questionable for tonight. "I think he rushed a jump shot once and I told him, but he was great."
The Warriors are just 3-8 on the road and will also visit Indiana, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Toronto and Washington on the trek.
