Heat pay a visit to Jazz
Mar 2, 2012 - 3:57 PM (Sports Network) - The Eastern Conference-leading Miami Heat will be without All-Star power forward Chris Bosh again when they shoot for a season-high 10th straight win against the Utah Jazz.Bosh, who is averaging 18.4 points per game and a team-leading 8.3 rebounds, is expected to miss a second consecutive game tonight due to a death in the family.
The Heat didn't miss a beat without him on Thursday and opened a brief three- game road trip in Rip City by disposing of Portland, 107-93. Fellow All-Stars LeBron James and Dwyane Wade combined to score 71 points in that one.
James had 38 points, 11 rebounds and six assists while Wade also filled the stat sheet with 33 points and 10 assists, leading the Heat to their ninth straight victory, the team's longest winning streak since a 12-game run from Nov. 29-Dec. 18, 2010.
"We had a big piece of our team out," James said when talking about Bosh. "His abilities in the paint make us a better team, so I definitely had to step up my game."
Miami, which is a solid 13-5 on the road, will finish its trek by visiting the LA Lakers on Sunday. That matchup could get interesting with Wade, who accidentally broke Kobe Bryant's nose on a hard foul during the All-Star Game. Bryant also sustained a concussion and Wade has already apologized.
The Jazz, meanwhile, snapped a four-game skid on Wednesday by topping Houston, 104-83, in SLC. C.J. Miles came off the bench and scored a game-high 27 points in that one as Utah ran away with it.
Devin Harris, who left the game in the third with flu-like symptoms, netted 19 points for the Jazz, who halted their skid despite playing without second- leading scorer Paul Millsap. Millsap missed the contest with a bruised left heel.
Josh Howard and Al Jefferson each scored 14 points while Gordon Hayward also reached double figures with 10.
"It's a great win for us," said Utah head coach Tyrone Corbin after the game. "We talked about, at the beginning of the year, not having losing streaks of three games or more. This is the first one this year for us. We don't want to have any more of those losing streaks. We want to make sure we take care of our business."
Millsap remains doubtful for tonight's contest, while Harris and guard Raja Bell (strained right adductor) are questionable.
Miami has won in five of its past seven visits to the Beehive State.
