Lawson fills stat sheet as Nuggets top Rockets

Mar 3, 2012 - 5:43 AM Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Ty Lawson scored a team-high 22 points while handing out 15 assists and grabbing seven rebounds to lead the Nuggets to a 117-105 victory over the Houston Rockets at Toyota Center on Friday.

"I was just trying to be aggressive," said Lawson after the game. "People were open and I just gave them the shot with a good pass. I tried to take care of the ball most of the time but today I was on. Our guys hit a lot of shots."

Seven different Nuggets ended in double figures, including Andre Miller and Kenneth Faried, who scored 16 apiece. Arron Afflalo added 17 points and Corey Brewer chipped in 15, as Denver snapped a four-game road losing skid.

Kevin Martin scored a season-high 35 points in the loss for the Rockets. Kyle Lowry netted 17 points, while pulling down seven boards and dishing out five assists, but Houston saw its four-game home winning streak come to an end.

"It's effort, it's technique, it's want-to," said Houston head coach Kevin McHale about his team's effort. "As I said before, it's a myriad of things that we're not doing. It's very disappointing."

After trailing early in the third stanza, the Nuggets tallied the final six points of the quarter to take an 82-78 lead into the final frame.

Brewer scored the first five of the fourth quarter to give the Nuggets an 87-80 lead less than two minutes into the quarter.

After Lowry pulled the Rockets within four at 100-96, Denver reeled off a 9-1 run, to take a decisive 109-97 lead with just under three minutes left in the contest.

Al Harrington drained a three-pointer and Lawson capped the run with a step- back jumper to seal the victory for the visitors.

Denver trailed the entire first frame until a Jordan Hamilton three-pointer gave the Nuggets a 26-25 lead they would take into the second quarter.

Houston answered an early 7-2 Denver spurt with a 9-2 surge of its own to take a 36-35 edge with 6:45 left in the half.

Trailing by one late in the half, Houston got back-to-back three-pointers from Martin and Courtney Lee before two Miller free throws made it a 54-51 halftime margin in favor of the home team.
