Toronto ends skid against Golden State

Mar 5, 2012 - 2:28 AM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - DeMar DeRozan scored 25 points, Leandro Barbosa had 18 off the bench and the Toronto Raptors snapped a five-game losing streak to the Golden State Warriors with an 83-75 win on Sunday.

DeRozan scored eight of his 25 points in a big third quarter for the Raptors, who outscored Golden State 22-11 in the frame to take control.

It was the lowest-scoring quarter this season for the Warriors, who also set a season-low in total points.

Indeed, the Raptors only needed to shoot 37.2 percent to win.

"We kind of set basketball back a few years," said Toronto coach Dwane Casey. "(But) we found a way. We did it defensively. Some nights you just can't make a basket and you have to do it with defense."

Double-doubles for Toronto came from James Johnson (12 points, 12 rebounds) and Amir Johnson (11, 13), who combined for 25 of their team's 51 boards.

The Raptors won for the third time in five games and moved to 1-1 on a four- game homestand.

David Lee led Golden State with 22 points and 12 rebounds -- his 19th double- double of the season -- and Monta Ellis scored 20.

The teammates hooked up for a highlight-reel play without about three minutes left when Lee sent a behind-the-back pass to Ellis, who spun under the basket for a reverse layup.

But the Warriors fell for the sixth time in nine games and dropped to 2-3 on a six-game road trip. They had a 56-48 lead with 4 1/2 minutes left in the third quarter, but Toronto ended the frame on a 12-2 run led by DeRozan and Barbosa to take a 60-58 edge into the fourth.

Even though their lead never cracked double digits after that, the Raptors would never trail again.

"Four games in a row we've had bad third quarters. We knew that coming in and talked about it at halftime," said Warriors coach Mark Jackson. "We were thoroughly outplayed. We did nothing offensively and then you have to keep fighting back in the fourth quarter and you can't keep doing that. It was a bad loss."

The Raptors beat Golden State for the first time since Oct. 31, 2008. They trailed 20-18 after the first quarter and 47-38 at halftime.

Game Notes

The Warriors were out-rebounded 51-41 and shot just 36.3 percent. They shot 22.7 percent in the third quarter. Ellis had seven of their 11 points in the frame.
