Bobcats shoot for rare winning streak vs. Jazz

Mar 7, 2012 - 3:42 PM (Sports Network) - It's not often the Charlotte Bobcats win back-to-back games, but they can turn the trick tonight with another solid performance versus the Utah Jazz in the continuation of a four-game homestand.

Charlotte disposed of the Orlando Magic by a 100-84 score on Tuesday behind Corey Maggette's game-best 29 points. Maggette has scored in double figures over the past 10 games, averaging 18.2 points per game in that span.

"It just feels good to get a win," Maggette remarked after the game. "We've been up and down and we're not having a good season and everyone knows that. For our team to play and fight tonight was a positive for our team."

Gerald Henderson added 16 points, while Bismack Biyombo filled the stat sheet with 10 points, a career-high 15 boards and seven blocked shots for the Bobcats, who ended an eight-game slide at home and a five-game losing streak overall to improve to 3-13 at home. Charlotte had dropped 21 of 22 games and is aiming for two straight wins Wednesday for the first time since ending the 2010-11 campaign with victories over New Jersey and Atlanta.

The Bobcats, who ended a six-game slide to the Southeast-rival Magic, will also welcome the Nets to town on the current residency.

Utah has won three of four games and will resume a five-game road trip tonight after handing Cleveland a 109-100 setback on Monday.

Al Jefferson had 25 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists, while Gordon Hayward added 23 points and five assists off the bench for the Jazz, who snapped a six-game road losing streak and won on the road for the first time since February 12 at Memphis.

"We just have to take it one game at a time and just play like we did tonight," Jefferson said. "We slacked off a little bit toward the end, but we got the win. That's all that matters."

Josh Howard and Paul Millsap donated 14 and 13 points, respectively. The Jazz are just 4-13 away from Salt Lake City and will also visit Philadelphia and Chicago on the road swing. Utah guard Raja Bell had two points in his return to the lineup after missing six games with a strained left adductor.

Jazz guard Devin Harris left the Cleveland game with a knee injury, but is expected to play Wednesday. He finished with nine points in 15:09.

Utah and Charlotte are meeting for the first time since the Jazz swept a home- and-home set a year ago. The Jazz, basement dwellers in the Northwest Division, have won five in a row against the Bobcats and two in a row as the guest in this series. Charlotte is at the bottom of the Southeast standings.
