Big third quarter propels Sixers past skidding Knicks
Mar 11, 2012 - 10:50 PM New York, NY (Sports Network) - Lou Williams' 28 points were the most scored by a Sixer this season as Philadelphia used a dominant third quarter to roll past the Knicks, 106-94, at Madison Square Garden.Evan Turner scored 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field and added 15 rebounds, while Andre Iguodala contributed 19 points for the 76ers, who have won three in a row.
"We were clicking on both ends," said Iguodala. "We did a better job of getting to the basket and getting foul calls."
Carmelo Anthony paced New York with 22 points and had nine boards, Jeremy Lin donated 14 points and Landry Fields netted 13 for the Knicks, who dropped their fifth straight.
Philadelphia led 51-49 at halftime before exploding for a 38-point third period.
Turner and Williams combined for 25 points in the frame and the visitors drained 70.6 percent (12-of-17) of their attempts overall, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.
"Thirty-eight points is a lot of points," Anthony said simply. "Thirty-eight points is unacceptable."
The Sixers took their largest lead of the game at 98-77 early in the fourth before New York made a move.
J.R. Smith began the 7-0 spurt with an old-fashioned three-point play, Steve Novak dropped in a 21-foot jumper and Lin hit a crisp fadeaway shot to cut their deficit to 14 points.
But the Sixers recovered, responding to most of the hosts' baskets from that point forward and preventing the Knicks from getting within single digits.
New York held a 24-22 edge after one on the back of 50 percent (10-of-20) field goal shooting.
