Irving's late run carries Cavs past Rockets

Mar 12, 2012 - 4:11 AM Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Kyrie Irving scored 16 of his 21 points in the final 4:14 of the contest, and the Cleveland Cavaliers downed the Houston Rockets, 118-107, on Sunday.

Antawn Jamison added 28 points and five rebounds for Cleveland, which has won three straight games for the first time all season. Ramon Sessions tallied 15 points and seven assists.

Luis Scola had 30 points and eight rebounds and Goran Dragic finished with 20 points and eight assists for the Rockets, who have lost six of their last seven contests.

The Cavs were up by two with 6:59 remaining, but Irving began his personal onslaught by capping an 8-2 spurt with a three-point play, making it a 101-93 game.

A bit later, Irving hit a short jumper, knocked down a pair of free throws and then nailed a huge three-pointer in consecutive Cleveland possessions, which made it 110-109 in favor of the Cavaliers with 52.9 left.

Irving made all six of his free-throw attempts in the final 32.9 seconds to seal the win for Cleveland.

"It was a great win," Cavs head coach Byron Scott said. "We got our confidence level back."

The Rockets, on the other hand, are lacking in that area.

"We don't have confidence," a disappointed Scola said. "It's just not working out right now. We've had a really tough stretch."

Scola netted 14 points in the opening quarter, but Jamison poured in 11 points for Cleveland as it took a 30-26 advantage into the second.

The Rockets shot 51.2 percent in the first half en route to a 57-54 lead heading into the locker room.

Jamison added 13 more points in the third, but the Rockets led, 84-81, going into the fourth.

The Cavaliers were 11-of-20 from beyond the arc while the Rockets finished 8- of-17 from three-point range...Cleveland tallied 18 fastbreak points and was 29-of-36 (80.6 percent) from the foul line.
