Hornets aim for rare winning streak, host Bobcats

Mar 12, 2012 - 2:38 PM (Sports Network) - Conference cellar dwellers meet in the Big Easy Monday when the New Orleans Hornets play host to the Charlotte Bobcats.

The Hornets are in the worst in the West but have still have five more wins than the NBA-worst 'Cats, including Saturday's 95-89 triumph in Minneapolis.

Chris Kaman scored 20 points and pulled down six rebounds in that one as New Orleans Hornets outlasted the Timberwolves.

Jarrett Jack added 17 points to go with seven assists and Greivis Vasquez and Marco Belinelli scored 12 and 11, respectively, as the Hornets salvaged a 1-3 record to wrap up a four-game road trip.

New Orleans, which is just 10-31 on the season, is a perfect 5-0 when Kaman records 20-or-more points.

The Timberwolves were playing without rookie sensation Ricky Rubio, who was lost for the season after tearing his ACL in his left knee late in Friday's loss to the Lakers.

"They are a different team without Rubio," said Hornets forward Trevor Ariza, "but they didn't let that get them down. They came out and competed, but we had enough to hang on tonight."

The Bobcats have dropped three straight and eight of nine after Saturday's 122-95 rout at the hands of Oklahoma City.

D.J. Augustin had 22 points and seven assists for Charlotte, which fell to a dismal 2-19 on the road this season. Corey Maggette finished with 21 points in the loss.

"We have to play better," admitted Bobcats head coach Paul Silas after the game. "In the fourth quarter, the third unit came in and we did not stop them and we just have to do better."

Charlotte is being outscored by an average of 17.3 points on the road and it has last its last four as the visitor by an average of nearly 27 points.

The Hornets have won two straight and four of the last five in the series.
